In this scene, En no Gyōja is depicted as an old sage sitting on a rocky outcrop, likely on or near Mount Fuji. He holds a gnarled wooden staff and is characterized by his traditional robes and high-platform geta (wooden sandals) often associated with mountain ascetics.
Floating on a dark cloud in the background are his two faithful demon servants, Zenki and Goki. Zenki (the front demon) typically carries an axe to clear the path, while Goki (behind) often carries a water vessel. Their presence signifies En no Gyoja's supernatural power and his spiritual authority over even the most fearsome spirits.
